Sanctuary Campuses for BIPOC Students: A Statement from the YDSA National Coordinating Committee (NCC)

On September 15th, Trey Reed was found hanging from a tree on his campus, Delta State University. Black students deserve the safety, dignity, and freedom offered to white students, and we will not rest until all of our Black, Indigenous, and comrades of color are able to live free from oppression. The United States was founded in the interest of white landowners by colonization, racial violence, and genocide— all of which maintain their presence in every facet of our society.

Our demand for “education for all” is sometimes said so much that it becomes haphazard. More than just economic accessibility, this demand includes a commitment to realize a future where equity is not a utopian fantasy, and our schools are places where we are all able to learn and grow. No one should go to school fearing that they may be kidnapped or killed; this is what it means to fight for sanctuary campuses.

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere, and as socialists, our responsibility is to fight tyranny and violence wherever we are. Expressions of solidarity are not enough; we must practice with our actions.

Look out for your classmates who are targets of right-wing violence, provide community for those who are afraid and grieving, continue to organize for our common future, and be a good comrade.

Yesterday, in a vote of 221 to 209, Congress approved a staggering $831.5 billion to the Pentagon.

This will be used to fund militarism abroad and Israel’s ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people, instead of the services and protections that working people desperately need.

Statement from DSA's National Political Committee. DSA Condemns Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” and Calls for House to Vote “No”
July 1, 2025. 1 of 4 The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) condemns Donald Trump’s so-called “Big Beautiful Bill”, and with its recent passage in the Senate 51-50, we urge all people of conscience to call their representatives and make their voices heard.

This bill would be one of the largest cash grabs by the billionaires in world history.

This bill supports massive cuts to Medicaid and will lead to as many as 17 million poor and disabled Americans losing their Medicaid and accessible healthcare cuts to rural hospitals and nursing homes will target our most vulnerable.

People should know why we are losing our healthcare, why masked men are terrorizing our communities, and what we can do about it. And while Trump’s Republican administration is leading the charge on the BBB, they have been helped by the Democratic Party’s unwillingness to fight back against these efforts and helping their efforts by crushing worker power at every turn and voting alongside them. We hope to defeat this bill and all it threatens to do, but the only way to build a fighting alternative is mass, working-class organization and resistance.

Statement, DSA National Political Committee. End the Raids, Lift the Ban, Drop the Charges! DSA Stands with Immigrants. On 6/4/25, the Trump administration re-enacted a travel ban preventing nationals from 12 countries from entering the United States. Two days later, ICE began violent, military-style raids in Los Angeles, detaining over 100 Angelenos, including labor leader David Huerta, president of the SEIU California State Council. The fight for immigrant justice is a fight for the very survival of the working class—for our families, our communities, our neighbors, our union siblings, & for those people who haven’t yet won the protection of a union. The ICE raids in Los Angeles are meant as a show of brute fascist strength—but solidarity is a force more powerful than gravity. We call on DSA members to pour into the streets, organize & fight to defend our immigrant communities.
