the end of the year is a time of transition and lament. a lot of artists lament the feeling of having loved art, but it didn't love them back. they loved, and loved, but they didn't produce, or improve, "enough." but artist love, writer love, gave you the tools to survive. to draft and drift to now.

you have to believe that love pays off in your personal practice even if it's unquantifiable. love, moreso than skill, does not generate an easily defined product. the love you put into something is not wasted even if you cannot see immediately "where it went." love artmaking for the sake of art.

Chris nailed it with this part at the end. Games really are just gambling sims and toys to most people. Games as art is a nice concept, but the industry will always see games as a product. Horses threatened the money in a very prudish moment, and it had to suffer for it.
