Day 06 was fun, a bit of messy sequencing with seqs — attempting to find a prettier solution before I push to github.

Haven't done anything fancy yet for AOC 2025, so oxcaml can run the code just fine — wonder if anything might make me reach for the 5.3+ effect syntax (like the concurrent code in 2019) — probably more likely to reach for PQueue (stdlib 5.4).

I'm sure it's a long developed bias, but I find it easier to write code in rust and other languages if I first think up the solution in ocaml — it's a great prototyping language — you can take its clear building blocks and then translate them into other PL structures.

AOC Day 05 done and solutions pushed to repo.

Nothing too crazy, presorting allows you to remove most of the potentially dangerous redundancy.

Metroid Prime 4 has arrived! May have time to play it over the weekend, but definitely not now…

Thought of some potential optimizations for AOC Day 04b, may add the more efficient implementation later.

Nothing clever needed for AOC 2025 Day 04 — good because I have a lot of other work to do...

Previous AOCs have taught me both to fear the naive solution and avoid overspecializing part a, so it always feels nice when I can find a direct solution like I did with Day 02 and replace a few numbers with 'n's to finish part b (Day 02&03).

Sometimes tho the most obvious solution is actually fine

I could save memory by emulating slices instead of using substrings, but small potatoes in this context.
December 3, 2025 at 6:36 AM
AOC 2025 Day3 was another fun, "generalize your solution to N" like yesterday. Part a in 14 lines of code, Part b in 15 (excluding empty lines). \o/

I finally did it — (the set up was annoying; I've used git but never github before) — my messy ocaml Advent of Code solutions are now up on github.

Finished AOC 2025 Day 2 — almost got part b in one try, but forgot to mirror an operation across a tuple.

Inevitable because there are fewer days, but this is definitely a harder start than previous years.

What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!

Having a day when you feel only marginally bad as opposed to super bad feels magical.

Unfortunately I did not get AOC day 1b right on the first try because of a stupid mistake, but we're off!

I passed the N1 in one go, but while my reading comprehension score was perfect, my listening comprehension just barely made the cut.
