In this particular piece, it is evenly divided into multiples of three. The only way to keep the contrast balanced is shade balanced red, yellow and blue. Since the first color was baby blue, hence my first reply and thus creating an evenly balanced full circle. different shades interrupts balance.
I don't really try to put symbolism into my art work. Except for my Crosses. I mostly approach my work from the standpoint of trying to end up with good graphic design aesthetics. Symmetry, repetition, variation, bold line work and curves.
I made this piece a long time ago, but if I remember correctly, I came up with the baby blue first, and then approximated the white level for the red and yellow.
