Blood in the Machine is a pretty solid lil read/listen if you enjoy worker’s rights and think that the displacement of human endeavor by automation for the enrichment of those controlling the technology may not be of that great a benefit to society as a whole.

this is really connected to yet another instance i had today of a student wanting to set a period piece in the retro "era of the 2000s"...a statement that causes me to explode into low poly dust like a video game skeleton mob
this is a sign of distress in my species, people who grew up in nj and have no reason to feel nostalgic about the 2000s
every millennial film guy reaches that stage in his life...

anyway wow, hot takes from me, the sopranos is great, unfussy television (and actually thinly sliced deli satire) but we learned all the wrong lessons from it as a tv culture

out here with my lantern in a soulsborne game situation at the dark and harrowing hour of...4pm
American bluesky posters are going through a period of intense hot take aggression a) because we're right at the point post-DST time change for everyone to be maximally exhausted b) serotonin crash as the midterms afterglow wears off. do not engage

tuesday is the most canceled of all
*just barely staggering though the door of my tower, slamming the heavy door shut behind me, collapsing against it, panting, disheveled, muddy for some reason*

EVERYONE. IS CANCELED.

forget gender, it turns out all relationships break down into "which one of you is the osha inspector and which one of you is the reason for the osha regulations"

I kept meaning to make some bespoke set-dressing chains for Pipeburn so I don’t need to ink every individual link in every individual panel like I did last time, so I decided to actually enter one of those Clip Studio Asset Challenges for once assets.clip-studio.com/en-us/detail...

so glad the child sexual abuse panic was squarely pointed at folks like me by the people actually doing it & the public was like “yeah, seems right—freaks did it. not the men with all the money & fighting to keep child marriage legal, the women that are legal to kill in 30 states if you’re nervous.”
What a great day for finding out that a lot of things people thought were conspiracies are actually backed up by emails that are like hey pedo, let us pedo together in pedoland on the second day of the pedo month

the only true crime content I really enjoy is white collar crime and corporate malfeasance and they are constantly emailing each other being like, “here’s my thoughts on the crimes we will do and when we will do them."

they do this because they are not pursued, in any way, by anyone

look I know being an engaged citizen IS the work of democracy but it is also the work of elected officials not to create situations where everyone has to be mobilized all the time to prevent them from allowing some kind of Dickensian horror on a Sunday night while you're in between loads of laundry

my idea of a wild friday night out, this and a nice cocktail, who wants to join me
at fantastic, thoughtful director q&a after the opening night of Peter Hujar's Day at Film at Lincoln Center, Ira Sachs was talking about artistic doubt, his and Hujar's, and waa asked by a student how you get over doubt: "remind yourself you're going to die!" he said with a laugh

shoutout to @msclairebiddles.bsky.social and @gavia.bsky.social's recent episode of Overinvested pod on their picks from the London Film Festival for helping alert me to this film, so I had an eye out for it getting a limited release in the US this week!

Film at Lincoln Center has a display of rare Hujar contact sheets in the lobby, too, highly recommend going if you're interested in his work
