I used to watch all the apocalypse TV and films (like the walking dead) where the CDC was ineffective and the US ended up ruining the world.

I understand how now.

BREAKING: Friday night massacre underway at CDC. Doznes of "disease detectives," high-level scientists, entire Washington staff and editors of the MMWR (Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report) have all been RIFed and received the following notice:

Legacy was such a good film, very underrated.

I don’t need a deep plot for a Tron film, none of them really had. Just want some action.

So long as none of those Disney moments that make you cringe im probably going to be happy.

I mostly ignore reviews, I like cult films mostly

I want to see it, but I’m a little worried it’s been ruined by modern Disney after what they did with Star Wars, Indiana Jones and to an extent Marvel.

That kind of looks almost identical to some of the scenery near me. I think it's the dark green of the grass.

Still the best aspect ratio.

I think only once though? My wife got her leave to remain at 5 years IIRC.

Controversial, but there ain't nobody going to want to go to a "barcade" with pride flags and vegan food as it screams "full of extremely tedious, socially awkward people who don't go outside very often".

Not really the makings of a lively hangout/pub.

I paid £20 for my 19” from one of those trade in shops.

That’s about as much as I’m willing to spend on “retro” stuff!

My TV was £2K but it’s utterly amazing quality.

Raytracing you say...interesting. I might have a go at some point updating my martian landscape code to use it instead of voxelspace rendering. Could be fun!

Sounds a bit like the one I have which has everything on the back. Good for connecting anything and everything to.

The main TVs only have HDMI I think.

I thought SCART was basically non-existent now? I have a crappy old 19" LCD I use for my Master 128 because no other TVs have it.

The Beeb isn't that clear doing 80 column even with SCART. The colour bleed must be bad on composite/RF. I remember switching to mono for text on a TV back in the day...

Watching Sum of all Fears.

It seems so long since both Russia and the USA had sane leaders (at the same time).

Gotta love Tom Clancy, I've read a ton of his books!

Some more visual stuff, added the continents/regions at the bottom.

That is a very accurate depiction of the French!

Yes it is surprising.

I’m thinking for similar reasons that yards are used in golf - everything is already designed around it.

Also knots for distances at sea maybe, which are closer to land miles than land km.
zolbatar.bsky.social
I know absolutely nothing but is it related to things like furlongs? As in it uses traditional ways of measuring the distance?

Disclaimer again: I know nothing!

Gotta be honest, that could be a plate of British food 😁

I mean that is not great as I presume they could never drive, but I amazed how the brain basically had disconnected the neural pathways between them.

Homes and food should be provided by the state, not private enterprise. It’s what taxes are for.

But I do agree on the LLM thing, this is an enormous bubble. They do have many legitimate uses but is it going to be as profound as the internet? Or personal computers? I’m not convinced.

I think the reason I like programming in Rust so much is it basically feels like familiar functional programming.

With all the safety and cleverness but without any of the slowness of weird VMs some of them have.
zolbatar.bsky.social
I do that as well as anyone just being plain old weird or attention seeking. Some people on here are chronically self obsessed.

I had laser eye surgery over 10 years ago and due to reasons too long to go into I’ve ended up with long sight in one eye and short in the other (monovision).

Was weird for a while but my brain adjusted and I can see up close as well as the moon nice and crisp.

There is no way it’s fair to call the 8bits friendly computing.

Slow as hell, terrible code editing, difficult to do anything useful without “friendly” assembly language.

Nostalgic yes. But a Pi is 1000x better for most realistic purposes.
