It was such an honor, as well as a lot of fun, to be profiled by the incredible @taxgirl.bsky.social in @forbes.com.
Thank you so much!

Tax professionals aren’t always preparers—sometimes, they are focused on tax policy work. @zorkamilin.bsky.social is a tax attorney for the FACT Coalition—she’s the next tax pro in our Getting To Know You series for @forbes.com.

The recent tax cuts gave a giant windfall to all corporations -- oil and gas in particular.

Great work from @itep.org tracking this.

Two historically low-tax oil companies, Devon Energy & Targa Resources, report that they are paying the Biden administration’s Alternative Minimum Tax(CAMT) now (yay) and won’t have to do so going forward (boo).
No surprise here: the OBBBA deliberately shelters intangible drilling costs from CAMT.

Thought-provoking essay on taxes and right-wing populism.

"Americans have a strong sense that the rich minimize their taxes in technically legal but morally dubious ways, pursuing tax planning and avoidance avenues unavailable to ordinary taxpayers." @vanessawilliamson.bsky.social

"The nation’s tax system confuses, frustrates, and angers many citizens in ways that leave them vulnerable to populist appeals from the right."

Is the tax code feeding the populist fire? Andrea Louise Campbell from @mit.edu breaks it down.

How U.S. tax policies have fueled right-wing populism
The federal income-tax system has become less progressive as wealthy Americans bend tax policies and the system in their favor.

Are American taxpayers subsidizing ExxonMobil’s partnership with a Chinese state-owned oil company to produce oil in Guyana?

@whitehouse.senate.gov @merkley.senate.gov @vanhollen.senate.gov raise important questions about the taxes that Exxon is or isn't paying in Guyana and the US.

First they used the tax system against immigrants.
And now they want to use it against groups with whom they disagree.
These are unlawful and bad policies.

The Trump administration has no legal basis for revoking the tax exemption of groups whose views it disagrees with, despite its threats to do so following the killing of Charlie Kirk, according to multiple law professionals.

Why would some business interests prefer for Congress to fly blind in tax policymaking? 🤔

Very good take from @howardgleckman.bsky.social @taxpolicycenter.bsky.social:

I know it's frustrating when lawyers point out when something the administration is doing is not legal. But responding with "the law doesn't matter anymore" is really unhelpful and defeatist. Clarifying the law is important because it reminds us not to comply in advance and to resist and take action

Where is @robarmstrong.bsky.social we need a catchy TACO-like acronym for this too.

"Big Oil scored major policy wins through expanded tax breaks and rollbacks of environmental regulations. Yet that hasn't translated to a healthy industry."

from @sarahcgchris.bsky.social on the funding the IRS got to FINALLY go after ultra-rich tax cheats and how quickly congress decided to yank that right back

IRS Enforcement Boost Was Supposed to Last 10 Years. Congress Killed It in Under Three.
The IRS was set to overhaul how it audits the ultra-rich. Now most of that funding is gone.

zorkamilin.bsky.social
No, it’s certainly not dead. The statute is still in effect, notwithstanding the Treasury’s illegal and unconstitutional attempt to exempt most filers.

Congressional appropriators are threatening to defund the nation's accounting standard-setter over new corporate tax reporting rules.

These new rules responded to investor demands for better disclosures - they shouldn't be in the political firing line.
