The technocracy-responsiveness nexus in EU policy-making
Debates over EU policy-making often depict the EU either as an unresponsive technocracy or as responsive despite constraints. Yet these two images are not unrelated. First, the increased focus of E...

Brilliant initiative, agree with @unabergmane.bsky.social - there are lots of very good books from and on Ukraine, like Zhadan's The Orphanage or @popovaprof.bsky.social and @oxanashevel.bsky.social Russia and Ukraine: Entangled Histories, Diverging States, and much more!
While empires are ravaging Ukraine, think about donating to Ukrainians if you can. And consider de-centring these empires from your cultural consumption. There is fantastic music and literature in Ukraine that Russia is trying to destroy. Support it by learning about it. chapterukraine.com

Thought-provoking week-end read by Cornel: "The problem isn’t that China “cheats.” The problem is that it plans well while Europeans act like the last liberals in the trenches, preferring to vanish rather than see too much state intervention." ...
Forget derisking. 2025 is about the the quiet MAGA-fication of the European mainstream, one green regulation rollback and green subsidy cut at a time. geoeconomic.substack.com/p/the-wartbu...

How do attitudes to 🇪🇺 European integration relate to political ideology and policy preferences?

A major update of my study:
- I added the latest 2023 ESS data for citizens and 2024 CHES data for parties
- I built an app to explore these relationships across datasets, indicators, years & countries

Conditioning on a match indicator S can generate collider bias exactly cancelling a confounding path and identifying the effect of Z on X. Here it is in a very good DAG.

9/10 because of the functional form specificity.

New article out in World Politcs. We analyze how different groups react to varying programs of social democratic parties. We find less trade-offs than often assumed. Generally, more left-progressive programs increase support among social democratic potentials
