Here’s how I sometimes start a new project.

First I buy a fancy new notebook.

Second I write some very well-ordered notes in my best handwriting on the first page.

Third I never look at it again.

Seriously peer-reviewers, this is not 19th century and we are (I hope!) no longer publishing in Mitteilungen der Akademie für Geschichte der Gelehrtengesellschaft Göttingen. Let people actually submit writing that others want to read and stop policing "academic style".
Returning to article peer review comments (which boil down to 'take out all the good bits and the jokes') and longing for death

“Unfunded” indeed. If one’s contract includes a percentage of time for research and scholarship, as most do, then anything produced in that context is funded.

Also, given the literal lottery that is research funding in the UK, where are these “funds” supposed to come from?
