Eric H. Cline is an American author, historian, archaeologist, and professor of ancient history and archaeology at The George Washington University (GWU) in Washington, D.C., where he is Professor of Classics and Anthropology and the former Chair of the Department of Classical and Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, as well as Director of the GWU Capitol Archaeological Institute. He is also the advisor for the undergraduate archaeology majors, for which he was awarded the GWU Award for "Excellence in Undergraduate Departmental Advising" (2006). Cline served as co-editor of the Bulletin of the American Schools of Oriental Research along with Christopher Rollston from 2014 to 2020. .. more

Doing the Assyrian and Babylonian Amarna Letters in class today. This is as close as I can get, in terms of a themed tie. Related good news— PUP told me yesterday that Love, War, and Diplomacy will be translated into both Spanish and German, in addition to Czech.

First exam of the semester today…

Finally enroute into school, after a week of teaching online. Today is Old Kingdom Egypt and the introduction of hieroglyphs, hence the tie for the occasion.

Morning has broken…

Teaching virtually via Zoom again today. Time for the second of my three Standard of Ur ties (each is a different color).

Discussing the Sumerians today in my History of the Ancient Near East and Egypt class, so it was obviously time for the Standard of Ur tie. However, teaching virtually via Zoom because of the snowstorm, so no jacket, but headphones instead…
