Powered by Draw Steel Made for the Jams of the Timescape Volume 2: Ancestries Chondrozzi Corpse-dwelling parasitic worms from the upper worlds, chondrozzi are the result of cruel biotechnological innovation. Beneath the barbs, eyes, tendrils, and teeth lies intelligence and experience. They were created by the synliri as a means to make use of slain enemies and thrall corpses. The chondrozzi were taken from an innocuous species and irrevocably altered. Miniscule psionic crystals spliced into their flesh allowed communication and facilitated their ability to seek out hosts. The final result was thousands of dutiful, necrotizing servants engineered to be loyal and disposable. However, after many years of repeated inhabitations, the chondrozzi changed again. They engaged with the lived experience. Empathy, emotions, and understanding emerged. With an unlocked sense of self, the chondrozzi sought freedom. This was considered merely a side effect to be exterminated by their creators, a failure of an early generation needing further experimentation. Yet there are chondrozzi who escaped eradication and now travel the myriad worlds via myriad hosts.
