But we will be working with advocates to build back housing programs that keep Oregonians in their existing homes, prevent homelessness, and preserve existing affordable housing.

For now, we're celebrating wins and planning ahead. We hope you'll continue to join us in these efforts.

While HB 2138, HB 3031, HB 3145, and SB 51 will make a difference, our work isn't done! Funding requested for some of these programs was reduced and, in addition, the legislature failed to provide other funding necessary to keep many Oregonians in the housing they already have.

We and our housing coalition partners Better Housing Together, Thrive Hood River, @pnwelcome.bsky.social and Central Oregon Landwatch are excited to see these four essential housing bills pass the legislature. But most of all, we want to thank you for showing up when it mattered most.

Huge news for middle housing options like fourplexes, sixplexes, and starter homes out of Oregon!

Congrats to @1000oregon.bsky.social & the whole pro-housing coalition in the Beaver States!

Oregon's legislature just passed HB 2138, removing remaining barriers to starter homes:

- up to 4 homes on all urban lots, attached or detached in any combo
- up to 6 homes with accessibility or affordability
- simpler lot splits
- strikes bans on such housing out of pre-2019 HOA rules

In addition, HB 3506 has also passed the Legislature, and designates $3 million to Healthy Homes for upgrades that keep seniors and disabled neighbors -- owners and renters -- in their homes. We are very please that both of these bills passed to help Oregon's older population age in place.
1000oregon.bsky.social
HB 3589 will also establish the Older Adult Housing Technical Assistance Fund to support housing location, design, development, and the delivery of non-licensed home and community-based services for older adults. #seniorhousing #housingdevelopment

Good news for senior housing! 1000 Friends testified in favor of HB 3589, which has passed the Legislature. This bill directs OHCS to create and implement a Senior Housing Development Initiative to incentivize housing development, with allocated funds of $23.5 million for vital senior programs.

Preventing homelessness is far more cost effective and it keep families intact, rather than allowing people to lose their home because of the unexpected expense. The Joint Ways & Means Committee approved an 80% cut to homelessness prevention, but the Alliance is still fighting.

1000 Friends is a member of the Oregon Housing Alliance, and we are sharing the Alliance's call for action to fund homelessness prevention. Please email legislative leaders today about the massive proposed cuts: actionnetwork.org/letters/tell...
