i've written a renderer in like 50 lines of code (though i havent thought about how this interacts with other overlapping features)
and for generating the facets, you'll convert html/markdown into an intermediate syntax tree, so the code for turning that into facets only has to be written once

AND: more styles can be added over time, and if a client doesn't understand/allow one, it can just leave in the fallback characters while processing the rest. e.g. in that example if bold wasn't recognized but italic was, you would get <i>abc**def**</i>

another example: from markdown “*abc**def***” (italic with bold inside it), you would generate a post with facets on:
“*abc” - features:[{style:'italic',strip:[1,0]}]
“**def***” - features:[{style:'italic',strip:[0,1]},{style:'bold',strip:[2,2]}].
which could be rendered: <i>abc<b>def</b></i>

(alternatively, you could have a facet feature that just hides its contents, and use that for the delimiters, but then you need 3x as many facets in most cases)

yeah it's a very pulling up the ladder behind you mindset.
unfortunately people are dealing with a lot right now, so it's not surprising

so i think their reasoning is we have to accept that childhood is likely going to suck. so all we will fight for is the promise that things will get better when you become an adult.

and they'd be fine with the government doing it, if it didn't affect adults too

unfortunately i don't think there's an easy solution here without abolishing the nuclear family etc.
