the very kind and friendly people of China in academic contexts, I can say I don't see that happen. Even in academia, it's not common to give your opinion vis-à-vis a superior. It would seem unthinkable in an army. I'm really not sure how AI would work in such a context of vertical control. 🤔

conventional fighting. russia had to involve Wagner to mitigate the problem of excessive hierarchy, and has introduced 'autonomy' and 'initiative' only quite recently in its regular forces. We see how well vertical control based on central planning works for russia in Ukraine. It doesn't. The Ukrainians found that out before 2022, I guess because they and their western partners expected a partisan/guerilla fight against russia, but it turns out decentralisation works even for ... 2/3
