Always pays back the time reading it several times over. And where else would you find gems like "Cant rather than Kant" (it is there - find it for yourself 😁).
Stasis, sanctimony and the liberal paradox. New post on my Brexit & Brexitism Blog with such Brexit news as there is, but mainly analysis of what 'responsible Farage' tells us about the tensions in Reform and what the BBC row tells us about Brexitism: chrisgreybrexitblog.blogspot.com/2025/11/stas...

Chicago Mayor Issues Defiant Call For A General Strike
It was an audacious proposal, given that the U.S. has never held a true, nationwide general strike.

As well as the fantasy £234 bn, journalists should also be clear Farage's claims most new migrants don't work, and those who do are on low wages, are entirely false.

In fact, 1.8 million recent migrants are on payrolls (others will be self employed).

as for wages, we see reasonably rapid wage growth among recent arrivals (as migrants progress, and low-earning students return home).

Nothing here at all to back up Farage's claims

Putting all this together, @lgilbert.co find the following.

It's not that Farage is (just) exaggerating/overstating - he is simply lying about migrants, jobs, wages and benefits.

Media should be very clear about this.

Any journalist quoting this absurd, invented £234 billion number cited by Farage/Reform should make absolutely clear that it has been withdrawn by *its own authors* (the Centre for Policy Studies) after they admitted it contained several major errors (1/3)

The radical right is winning because Labour, the Tories, most of the press and the BBC will not speak for the majority that sees Farage and the extremists beyond him as a menace

My musical tribute to Dame Cleo Laine who has died at the age of 97. Such a great jazz singer. But not only jazz. Pop, classical, she did it all. I remember her performing He Was Beautiful (Cavatina) with classical guitarist John Williams. Beautiful.

Panorama: an exercise in economic misinformation www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2025/06... Last night's Panorama on 'Is Britain broke?' on BBC1 got nowhere near finding any useful answers to the question it posed, and that was the result of our journalism.
