I'm basically trying to do a balancing act between "mesh that is simple and optimized so that cloth simulation is easy" and "mesh that either has textures that can fake holes, or has geometry that supports real holes AND looks good"

I could also instead forego a more optimized mesh and just make some really ugly topology for the holes, add some jaggedness in there, but I'm not sure if I want to do that >_>;;

So what I want to try out is to create the rip on both the inside and outside, but then paint one set of frayed fibers on the outside, and one set on the inside. That way, when you see past them, it will look less immediately obvious the mesh is hollow!

But the problem with solidify is that if you create transparency on the textures, it becomes really clear that the inner portion of the mesh is hollow. But solidify also has a cool trick: material offset. This lets you have one material for the outside, and a different for the inside.

When you create both the inside and the outside of your clothes out of real geometry, you up the complexity of weight painting a LOT. It makes manual weight painting an absolute nightmare to deal with, and it ALSO makes cloth simulation way harder.

I think I'm gonna try some fun stuff in Blender this weekend, specifically for making ripped pants. Part of the problem with ripped pants is that in order for them to have ANY amount of thickness, you either use a Solidify modifier, or you create true geometry. The latter is usually the worse choice

What is "plenary authority" and why is it a big deal that Miller said that Trump has it over the national guard?

He then fully stopped talking and just blinked at the camera, as if he realized that he said the quiet part out loud. "Plenary authority" means "complete power over a particular area with no limitayions". It is equivalent to ruling by decree, which us how Mussolini, Stalin or Hitler governed. Having "plenary authority" over the military would mean that Trump can just use the national guard as he pleases, no matter what the courts say. It's a power grab.

I hate to say it but the majority of the country is not going to die on the hill of trans rights. We can’t protect ANY groups if we can’t win a national election, so purity tests only serve to make specific groups feel triumphant. That’s not “erasing” them; it’s long-horizon strategy.
