I’ve lost count of the times I’ve disagreed with a copy editor/style guide on the simple grounds “It just *sounds* better this way.”
In the end, language is about *flow*. Grammar is just a set of agreed conventions to help that flow. Where it gets in the way of flow, then hey - fuck grammar!

NB caveat - this is an 18 Certificate opinion, not applicable to kids or school. Sorry kids. First you learn the rules, then you deploy them, then - with mastery - you break them as you see fit.

It's also, of course, one of the salients of contemporary right wing politics (I'm not going to call it Conservatism, because it stopped being that a few decades ago) - one rule for me, another rule for everyone else. Strong on Law and Order, but only for Other People.
