Mother. Grandmother. Herbalist. Escapee to the Great White North.
Preparing for a Christmas Market when I remembered I scored a book of William Morris wrapping papers last summer and they are....perfect.

The Aurora and stars have returned with the increasing darkness. This is my son's pic from a Yukon gold mine in Carmacks where he is working, this a.m. Still waiting on firewood, yikes. Beauty evenings of late, and sourdough mornings, easy to forget the world exists, yet it does. RESIST.

THIS IS BULLSHIT, get your emails warmed up Canadians, she is using our time to honour a divider, a liar, a racist, a bigot, a misogynist! She is using our time to honour that! #anythingbutconservative
Jesus Christ.

A standing ovation — from Liberals too — for Charlie Kirk in the Canadian House of Commons.

You can (and should) oppose political violence without doing all this, you know.

Bread on Tuesday, Wednesday, pie. How I keep the cabin warm now. The boys keep dropping off wood; hoping not to start the stove up until October. Ha! We shall see.

Day off from the Museum always means sourdough is gonna happen. Today's bake.

Spent yesterday exploring the Torres Channel, visiting the Llewellyn Glacier and beautiful Cathedral Mountain. Just as spectacular as this 1920's postcard promised it would be..

Well, might experience my first wildfire evacuation. Dammit. Atlin BC is a beautiful place to live. But with only 1 road in and out of our community, a very dangerous place too. Gassed up the 4runner and packed the go bag.

Happy Solstice! Some crepuscular rays seen from our deck, from last night, last March & September.

Third year in the Yukon and far from my Ontario family. My son & daughter-in-law just left from a visit here, and sent this. My heart is full.

Second night of planned power outage tonight. No news, no sound after a grim news day, most welcomed. Well, there will be the sound of dice shaking, cuz no hydro must always mean board games.

Wild rhubarb, Iceland poppies, and the colour blue. Today, across from the post office.

In case Americans fear we Canucks will treat them badly here, yesterday a New York lady came into the museum of our Gold Rush town & said how much she wished she could pan for gold in such a place. I made a phone call & had a volunteer drive her out to a creek where she did just that. We got you.

Winter is over, time for morning coffee on the deck once more.

I live in one of the least populated regions in Canada, in a settlement with no town council of any sort. Volunteers run this place and they did a bang-up job of organizing this first day of advance voting at our Rec Centre. Pee Pee is doomed.

I cannot wait for this election to be over. The things my boys tell me about their Windsor/Sarnià friends and their love for PP is... unsettling. Their union is now encouraging my kids to vote Conservative. I think, I hope, I raised them well enough to just do the right fucking thing here.

Busy day in the apothecary but there's always time for sourdough!

Another Canadian icon. We have so many because we fucking rock. Vive le Canada!
I also loved the moves of the late Gord Downie of the Tragically Hip. I learned all the wrong dance lessons from his appearance on SNL. I particularly love his head bobs and gyrations starting around the 3-minute mark. vimeo.com/261747317

I'm à volunteer librarian working today in our precious Gold Rush era courthouse+library. The library is where gold claims were processed, it is a weird feeling standing behind that old desk, knowing that fortunes were staked here. It was quiet today, it's cold. So, Pierre Berton it is. NEVER AGAIN.
