100% agree that urban FDs need to get over their love affair with monster trucks. Looking at your QT here, I’ll note that, for good or bad, the 20/26 foot widths are set so that one apparatus can pass another.

20' is normal, allowing emergency vehicles to pass. The extra 6' in the (optional) appendix to the Fire Code is to allow a ladder truck to deploy their outriggers in a fire. As if moving a t-shirt vendor's pop up out of the way in a pinch wouldn't work. oof.

I’ll take regional land use rules and transit agencies but am okay with sub-regional governments for administration. There is a balancing point for efficiencies, responsiveness, accountability and innovation. No urbanized jurisdiction <50k though.
