So glad to see our article on #evolvability of flower nectar and morphology and its role under novel pollination environments featured in this virtual issue @newphyt.bsky.social.
There is still so much to know about the regulation and #evolution of #nectar and its role in angiosperm evolution!

In what may be one of Earth’s craziest forms of mimicry, researchers in 2023 reported a species of rove beetle that grows a termite puppet on its back to fool real termites into feeding it.

This is Macrocillix maia & he's a moth who mimics bird poo. But he's taken it to the next level, he's also mimicking flies feeding on the bird poo, right down to the shimmer of their wings!

I have wanted to see one for so long, but never thought I would! In Trus Madi entomology camp in Borneo.

What a great ending for a great chapter of my life!
Lots of emotions, but could not be happier to have completed my PhD in such a great environment, with such great people and the amazing guidance of @calacastellanos.bsky.social!
Just starting to get a grasp about what flower evolution is about!

I don't think students realise how proud you feel as a supervisor when they get their PhDs after so many years of hard work! Congratulations to @a-romerobravo.bsky.social for a very successful viva and PhD overall! 🪻🐝🐦🌱🌿🌼

Wow, they found fungal hyphae inside the sheaths of nitrogen-fixing cyanobacteria! Usually with these types of symbiosis it's the other way around, with bacteria growing inside their host. This is supercool!🧪

What is the state of trust in scientists around the world? A study in Nature Human Behaviour reports on a survey of 71,922 respondents in 68 countries and finds that trust in scientists is moderately high. https://go.nature.com/3PLgKKU 🧪
This is figure 1, which shows weighted means for trust in scientists across countries and regions (1 = very low, 3 = neither high nor low, 5 = very high).

Petal size and shape is generally determined by a period of cell proliferation followed by cell growth. Extending the period of proliferation results in much larger petals without compromising shape.

The robustness of plant development is admirable.
