The last piece I saw with briefly in this visit was “Lous Evitisnes” (2024) by Marley Robinson #ConArtInSitu

The next piece I sat with was English Dreamscape (2024) by Emily Domagala #ConArtInSitu

“What, Like It’s Hard?” (2024) by Syd Lee was the next gallery piece that called me to pause with it for a few minutes #ConArtInSitu

Next I spend time with Tubberware Palace (2023) by Adailia Nanilei Lorson #ConArtInSitu

Next, I looked at Color Study: Green (2023) by Emma Lynn Lehman #ConArtInSitu

The first piece that caught my attention in the Shwader Art Gallery was Standing Still by Juliana Jobin #ConArtInSitu

The way this piece was illuminated from the inside bulb resulted in a continuation of the work to the outside environment through the web of shadows it projected over its surroundings. Through this, the piece interacts with the world around it in a really cool way #ConArtInSitu

The piece I chose to sit with this week was Nervous System (2017) by Jessica Rosenkrantz and Jesse Louis-Rosenberg, manufactured by Shapeways #ConArtInSitu

Last piece found before my flight was The Keys to the City by Mikel Elam. I like his of keys, and wonder what they symbolize to the artist and why he chose to include them. The way he has positioned them in this piece reminds me of a flow diagram of some kind, indicating movement #ConArtInSitu

Another hallway, another mural. For this one, each panel was designed by a different artist: Breathe (2023) by Jeffy Thomas, Pine Cones (2023) by Le Josh, El Recorrido (2023) by Linda Fernandez, and Pulse and Flow (2023) by Adam Crawford #ConArtInSitu

Storm Over The Atlantic by Eurhi Jones was another piece commenting on wastefulness & disposability. This panorama of storm clouds & ocean is made entirely of garlands of single use plastic items, which given the garbage patches and microplastics in our oceans, is scarily plausable #ConArtInSitu

0-100% by Emilio Maldonado. This is a piece I wanted to sit with for a while, as there is so much to absorb. To me, it speaks to the culture of constant overconsumption and unchecked material excess in our country, as well as the disposability and transient nature of our belongings #ConArtInSitu

Street art was a theme in multiple displays, including this one in a hallway between concourses. Standing off to the side to observe it, the silhouettes of people rushing to their flights somehow became part of the artwork after a while, like I was watching a recording #ConArtInSitu

Next, I found some of Meryl Hartt’s Phil.Avos. Hartt installs these crochet stuffies around the city on random, otherwise mundane, city buildings and infrastructure. These are cute and funny, but would definitely make me stop and consider my surroundings if i found them in the “wild” #ConArtInSitu

Even in areas that are not labeled exhibitions, the utility areas of the airport often contain non-airport-like features such as decorative support poles, murals in hallways, etc. I grabbed a coffee and took a short sit in a crochet rocking chair. This feels like a treasure hunt! #ConArtInSitu

First find: Portal To Nowhere by Shelly Reed. I love ceramics that expand traditional use, taking a functional form and creating sculpture and secondary meaning from it. I particularly was drawn to the piece that looks like it’s wearing a necklace, as well as the botanical aspects #ConArtInSitu

The piece I have chosen to sit with today is Innocence Lost (2023) by Jenna Annunziato #ConArtInSitu

The waterfall is both painted and 3D, with strands of thread and beads contributing to the effect of falling water. The way i interpreted this area, as well as the inclusion of textile patches throughout the piece, has something to do with human interference/influence on nature #ConArtInSitu

A small section of this canvas that I really enjoyed was the waterfall in the foreground. This am all part of the painting is very visually interesting, especially with the way the artist depicted ripples on the water surface. I really like the pattern this abstraction creates #ConArtInSitu

This aspect of the painting drew my attention because I couldn’t determine what it was conveying. Is this a solar eclipse? Black hole? Portal to heaven/hell? Eye of God? Is it sinister, or is it sacred? #ConArtInSitu

While studying in Guatemala, I was able to hike up an active volcano. Prior to this experience, I pictured walking on a volcano to be like walking on the moon. It definitely was as we approached the cone, but just below I was astounded to find the most amazing array of wildflowers #ConArtInSitu

One aspect of this work I focused on was the erupting volcano. The artist depicted the usual otherworldly destructiveness seen in volcanic subjects, but erupting from the mouth alongside the lava and gas clouds are beautifully and intricately embroidered flowers #ConArtInSitu

Each inch of this canvas is an explosion of color, pattern, and detail, which reminded me of my viewing of the work “American Grassland” last week, and the emphasis on the importance of the individual and overlooked in an ecosystem or landscape. #ConArtInSitu

The volcano itself is depicted as larger/grander/more powerful than life, and of course would look very different in person, color and pattern inclusion aside. This reminds me of the style popularized by the Hudson River School painters, such as the example included by Albert Bierstadt #ConArtInSitu
