In the first Walker Data workshop on the 2020 Census, I taught how to compare single-year age profiles over time - with tips on plotting all states in parallel!

I'm deeply discounting past workshops in advance of new content in 2026. Check them out!

Vaccines and anesthesia are the two of the most important life saving/extending discoveries ever. It is truly unimaginable to be pulled backwards like this.

It's funny how vaccines worked so well that now infant mortality is low enough for all the new generations to forget it was ever a common thing.

Vaccine stability has made us forget why it was so important in the first place.

Before vaccines, 450 children died out of every 1000. Now? 20.
A graph showing that 450 out of every 1,000 children died in the 1800s. By 1950, it was about 40 out of every 1,000 kids.

Truly being “pro-family” means ensuring access and cost of care - including IVF - never stands in the way of someone choosing to start or grow their family.

Trump breaking his promise about something as important as this might not be surprising, but it is cruel.

Just got to the fluoride episode of Parks and Rec in our rewatch and I'm still dumbfounded we're actually living it now.

These days though, a Parks and Rec rewatch can move mountains. Hurts my ribs too because I can’t stop crying laughing.

Yeah, it's August in the Southwest - but it's not supposed to be THIS hot. Some all-time records this week - and BTW, of the top 25 hottest Aug afternoons in PHX, 23 have been since 2000. A trend, perhaps? For a deep dive on the SW heatwave and Western drought/fire danger: tinyurl.com/mtj8bhc9
