It's a step backward to be sure. What I've found to streamline as much as possible is to pinch to zoom out on the page, which brings up the all tabs view. Then you can tap the x. Only two gestures, so a bit better?

To be honest, I haven't played any other deck builders besides dominion (OK, 1 game of Star Realms), so it's entirely possible that others have advanced the genre far beyond what Dominion does. Considering your original post, it might not be a must-play for you.
