How do we understand pictures? Finally, I've finished writing this blog post summarizing my new theory of perspective perception in picture, which was published in a human vision journal earlier this year.

In this new preprint, I survey ways in which computer graphics research can aid scientific study of art and aesthetics, and propose a description of the goals of CG research. It may be of interest to both vision scientists studying art and CG researchers.

In this blog post, I hypothesize that a few classes of visual illusions (tilt, peripheral motion, and grid illusions) can be explained by peripheral visual encoding in human vision. It's a draft in-progress that I hope to turn into a paper eventually.

New blog post on the surprising nature of awareness: we think we're seeing everything around us, but we're not. I'm convinced that these illusions have a lot to say in how we understand pictures, which I'll talk about in a future blog post.
