I finally got a copy of “The Best of The Spirit” (great stuff; thanks for the recommendation) and while reading it today I was delighted to find an interesting predecessor of one of my favorite Flash Gordon panels!

I think this was the moment when I first noticed it—I looked at this panel and thought “this comic has such great characters” and then suddenly realized that one of them had been there for 90 years and the other three were only introduced in the last year-and-change but they all just *work* together

I don’t know if it was intentional but there’s an interesting visual echo here between Aura saving Wilda by pulling her back up to a ledge using a long red cape versus Aura saving herself by lowering herself down from a ledge using a long red banner.
