A couple of years ago, I read Carson Vaughan’s “Zoo Nebraska” about the disaster at my childhood zoo, and realized *how much worse* it could have been. Chimps escaped, running around town, had trapped some people in a trailer.
The real takeaway from "I could take a bear/gorilla" discourse online is that Hollywood and pop culture have led to way too many people either forgetting or never learning just how terrifying chimpanzees are

I keep mulling over @corsent.bsky.social‘s most recent newsletter, and the question that keeps rolling around is: What even *is* family? Is it the people who adopted me but prioritize their political beliefs and white saviorism? Or the people who I share genetics with but not history or culture?
