I still think the director just put the camera on them, turned it on, said well, that's lunch and then director and crew wandered off to eat and left them all to do whatever they wanted.

I wish I could say that I cannot believe that people need to be told this but I've been around fandom a looooooooooooong time and yes people need to be told to do this.
Make your praise public (comment on fics and works instead of just privately in discord or DMs so the creator will see it!) and your crit private (if you don't like something, find a friend to vent to privately instead of airing that shit on social media or in tags used by fans who like it)
