The new Iron Cross/swords logo is a total surrender to the far-right simulacrum. When you have zero material power, you overcompensate with 1930s LARP. Terminal pathology. 🥀
Ukip have submitted a new logo and slogan to the Electoral Commission, swapping the £ pound sterling symbol for a cross, that looks very much like it is modelled on the Iron Cross used by Prussia & Germany 1871-1918 and Hitler's Nazi regime from 1933-45

Ultimately it's a case of the ultra wealthy class funding parties, think-tanks, buying news outlets, controlling social media platforms in order to ensure we point fingers at each other at the bottom of the ladder instead of looking up and realising they're laughing at us.
No matter which party is in charge, the shots are being called by powerful donors, not ordinary voters.

No wonder most people feel so cynical about politics – they’re dealing with a cost-of-living crisis, while politicians from both parties are on the take.

Good to see @zackpolanski.bsky.social getting the greens taken seriously, I do have an anxiety about the day we'll hear language like "wear the term fascist like a badge of honour" or "if loving your country means you're a fascist then I guess I'm a fascist" etc.

I wonder if Stephen King is on the Epstein list, which is why we're seeing a load of his films now because when it's revealed, no one will want to make the films, so they're cashing in now?

Bit of a stretch? Yes.
Accusing someone of something horrible, also yes.

I liked the Long Walk however.

Remember, most of reality is just something you set as an arbitrary ongoing, dialectical goal that can't really be achieved before you die, but serves as a distraction from the eternal abyss. Have a beer. Chill out.
I am old. I’ve been through so many waves of hustle culture. Outside of occasional crunch times, the overwork is always unnecessary, performative nonsense that provides cover for some combination of bad ideas, abusive leadership, disorganization, a total lack of strategy etc etc.

Interesting article in @theconversation.com about the proliferation of Uk flags by Callum Blades. It's not about being a patriot. It's about being terrified of the world. They're projecting fear of everything they don't understand onto a bit of cloth. It's a psychological crutch for the insecure.
National anxieties and personal fear – what psychoanalysis tells us about the comfort we find in flags
Understanding why we cling to objects in a moments of uncertainty helps explain the appearance of English flags on roadsides and in towns.

I think one of the reasons so many men are anti-trans is because they can frame it as a threat to women, in order to disguise the most evidenced and documented threat to women, which is men.

The cringiest thing about the people painting roundabouts with England flags and hoisting their foreign-made England flags is it's obvious they are desperate for people to challenge them so they can whine about how everyone is offended these days.

The flag shagging, racist bellendery from the far-right is not patriotism
Tying a hastily and shoddy-made flag your missus got on Temu upside down on a lamppost whilst shouting 'protect are girls' isn’t patriotism

the constant and vicious politicisation of the refugee debate is something else. When a columnist has to write that the media is using it to fuel hatred, and that history will damn them for it, you know the UK has passed cynical and landed squarely in the realm of the sociopathic
