Dialectical Materialism 🤝 Dialectical Immaterialism
Reality is a progression of Moments and we're in the dumbest one yet
Part of the premise of capitalism is markets allow people to decide on their own how to meet their own needs with "their own capital" (for most of us, our labor)

But at scale, capitalist institutions *create markets* by creating new needs to exploit, often by isolating us from our support systems

It's helpful to think of capitalism as a system that exploits needs rather than serving people - pogroms and genocides and deportations and discrimination may diminish the number of people in the consumer base, but they all vastly increase the needs each person has by increasing the risk of violence

Politics is a practice of Counting, specifically Who Counts: who counts as a person, who counts as a good person, who counts as a person worthy of love and community and respect and dignity

You count - no matter where you are or where you come from or how you came. If you are here, you count!

And I think liberals should stop taking the bait and ceding ground on immigration.

Immigration is good. Multiculturalism is good. Free trade is good. Stop being embarrassed to say so.

Even there it depends *what* in law. LLMs are good where (1) you need to process huge amounts of natural language data (2) ask it questions that don't fit well to boolean logic (3) every true positive result is a win (4) false positive results can be (and are) quickly and accurately detected

We can make all kinds of justifications for why not having specific treatments can have specific outcomes that prove a condition was "bad enough" to need life-saving care, but ultimately the point is to recognize the needs we all share and the ways we can improve healthcare for all of us!

We're conditioned often to think of disability as a single fixed position on a scale from fine to bad to worse, but disability takes on all kinds of dimensions that can't be captured by some comparative hierarchy. Our needs are contextual; sometimes insulin-care is easy & transition is life-or-death

Now look at CBS. Installing Bari Weiss to run a news division isn’t a "pivot to the center." It is a deliberate hollowing out.

Take a legacy institution, gut its standards, wear its skin like a suit. They don’t want CBS's credibility; they want to destroy the idea that credible news exists at all.

Conservatives often resolve contradictions by ignoring them and leaving you personally responsible to suffer the consequences, because it preserves the systemic hierarchies they consider natural and just. After Trump 2016, they don't even pretend to resolve them!

Yes! All we need is to vote in one post-Trump Democratic Trifecta so we can hold everyone accountable! Well, one *more*. The first one didn't count because some Democrats are Republicans.

From what I've heard reported, the target for this round is algorithmically served content like youtube serving right wing grifters or insta serving weight loss/ ed posts, and to set a precedent for platforms to be liable for their algos. The Roblox exemption is weird though, given its, uh, history

You do have to care the same about everything, regardless of context. Now, whether you care a lot or not at all is totally up to you! That's freedom!
