I found it a little unearned - some of these characters have been spinning wheels, or just veering wildly, and like. Yeah, Mike in S5 was all right but he suuuuucked in others. No one had a consistent through line that kept me invested in them to the end.

If the focus of the late game was on Rinoa's fears and doubts about being a sorceress, Ultimecia can have a real personal meaning that is lacking and leads to ideas like U=R. A remake could lean into that push similarities, and then end on Rinoa beating Ultimecia with the power of empathy.
