Needed to summarize my PhD Project in 3min and realized I am the interesting spot of being behind and before the schedule. Is this a collective experience?

This is not caused primarily by "screen time".

It's been caused by the mass eradication of third places for young people in basically every city over the past three decades - and a society that's hostile to the concept of teens socialising in public spaces.

Organismal agency is one of today's liveliest debates in the life sciences. Our volume—published a year ago—brings historians, philosophers & scientists into the conversation, offering the kind of nuanced treatment this complex issue deserves 👇 www.routledge.com/The-Riddle-o... #HPS #evosky #philsky
Book cover of "The Riddle of Organismal Agency: New Historical and Philosophical Reflections" (Routledge, 2024). The book belongs to the "History and Philosophy of Biology" series. The editors are Alejandro Fábregas-Tejeda, Jan Baedke, Guido I. Prieto, and Gregory Radick. The design features a geometric pattern of interlocking, multicolored triangles in shades of red, yellow, teal, white, and pink. The Routledge logo appears in the lower right corner.

Hard truth for grad students:

Writing isn't something you do after the REAL science.

➡︎ Writing IS the science. ⬅︎

Your experiments don't matter
if you can't communicate them.

Your discoveries don't exist
if they stay in your lab notebook.

Got amazing feedback after my talk at #ISHPSSB2025 . Thanks for everyone attending the session on Epistemic Injustice and my talk on endometriosis and ignorance.

For more: Feel free to write me a mail!
acfischer.bsky.social
This isn’t just accidental. It’s part of a long history of epistemic injustice and ignorance, where certain groups’ knowledge, body and experience are systematically devalued. We’re digging into that tomorrow through the lens of endometriosis, reproductive bias, and the politics of ignorance.

Men are often failed by health systems because of toxic masculinity — they’re discouraged from seeking help. But women are failed when they do seek help. Being “in the system” doesn’t help if the system doesn’t listen or lacks the science because women’s bodies haven’t been taken seriously.
acfischer.bsky.social
Important questions — thank you for asking! Yes, women often live longer, but living longer doesn’t mean living better. The phrase “women live sicker” captures the brutal truth: women’s health concerns are dismissed, misdiagnosed, and under-researched for decades.
acfischer.bsky.social
That is a great questions and points to issue related to feminism and toxic masculinity. The quick answer is that men die quicker and women live sicker. Women experience more neglect in the health care systems, men do not go. Social, biological, behavioral factors intersect in complex ways.

Andra in front of screen text: Introduction
• Philosophers of science have long departed from conceptions of science as axiomatic, unified and stable systems of inquiry > knowledge production as a highly dynamic, situated and collective process.
• Epistemic standards play a key role in knowledge generation processes (Brigandt 2012, Jacoby 2023) and among these, evidential standards (e.g., Stegenga 2011;
Tempini and Leonelli 2021).
• In contexts of inquiry marked by 'epistemic scarcity' (Currie 2021) like paleoanthropology, evidential standards are frequently invoked in debated settings:
How are evidential standards constructed, interpreted and enforced?
