Here's how to disable autoplaying video (and trending video content!) on BlueSky:
Settings > Contend and media > uncheck "Autoplay videos and GIFs" and "Enabled trending videos in your Discover feed"
The latter (if you use the Discover feed) will cut down on the number of still previews you see.
