Warhammer's creative breadth summed up by my two factions:

1. Adepta Sororitas🤘: fascist nuns, conlang space Latin; orbital drop cathedrals; satirically sharp; aesthetically indulgent.

2. Maggotkin💩: uh oh so gross! Ew, goopy. Haha sneeze attack! (Look for my poetry series, "Nurgle's Gurgles.")

repost this if an editor has ever saved you from yourself

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

And if you don't win, hey, that's a cool essay you can post, publish, or submit elsewhere.

(As far as I can tell, anyway.)

If you're an undergrad in linguistics, anthro, cog sci, STS, comms, etc., think about submitting!

Thank you!

These are absolutely fire. Amazing kitbashing.

Whoa! You've probably answered this elsewhere, but where's that head from?

Fully on-rails shooter, each target a photorealistic Sora-looking animation of a Twitter avatar that was once honest twith him. The game is 20 minutes long. The controls don't drift so much as glue the reticle to the top left corner. If you press escape it crashes your PC.

Beautiful, in its own way. Like a slime mold spreading through a Connect Four set, game half in progress, some slots full of rusted, ancient coins

Holy shit what a gorgeous photo (of a gorgeous person)

Social media use averages 2.4 hours per person per day and there's rich data on its effects on attention span.

This is a fantastic thread but the phones — and specifically short-form, scrollable content — are completely corrosive to reading.

For what it's worth, the person everyone's dunking on is trying to say something substantive about both ML and the ethics of encountering new kinds of beings.

Misplaced, obvs, and I really don't think the cog sci holds up, but IMO it's more about individualism and computationalism than fandoms.
acornapocalypse.bsky.social
I get that your point is more subtle than this and involves default ways of treating other beings.

But what we call "AI" is no more animate than a blender or a shoe. And most resistance to it is resistance to ecological destruction, tech hype, and social harm. At least as far as I've seen.
acornapocalypse.bsky.social
In those stories the AI has agency. It's a fundamentally different category of entity that shares ONLY a name and some marketing with the current range of products.

LLMs have neither agency nor independent being nor perspective nor autopoietic self-maintenance nor operational closure.

If it helps, your memories are all reconstructed imagination anyway

This is really quite beautiful. It's not in any meter (I don't think?) but it reads poetically

I love this creature even though I have never met them before

Gotta also include "basket of deplorables"

You're clearly right.

IMO, so is Hobbes: condescension is annoying, but Fox has made people think liberal elites HATE them over differences in values, lifestyle, aesthetics, etc.

That disinformation erases the line between frustration at bad electoral choices and true revulsion at MAGA policies.

This whole section really.
Finally: AI cannot do your job, but an AI salesman can 100% convince your boss to fire you and replace you with an AI that can't do your job, and when the bubble bursts, the money-hemorrhaging "foundation models" will be shut off and we'll lose the AI that can't do your job, and you will be long gone, retrained or retired or "discouraged" and out of the labor market, and no one will do your job.
AI is the asbestos we are shoveling into the walls of our society and our descendants will be digging it out for generations:

Thanks! Kinda seems like a reasonable reaction to me. Is the problem that he was wrong, that it's bad politics to say it out loud, or that he sounded arrogant?

'Cause unless you're a billionaire or a committed, avowed racist, voting for MAGA candidates just *was* a poor choice by almost any metric.
