Hills, mountains, outdoor stuff, bikes and cycling, books, general carping and trivia. I do not have a cat.
Location: off on a tangent.
After I've walked through urban Plymouth this will be the next day on my SW Coast Path walk sometime in the Spring. 🙂

This is why I never go swimming in the sea.

It's certainly astonishing, but the problem I have with so much underwater photography like this is there's no sense of scale. Is this fish millimetres, centimetres or meters long?

What a great picture of Jacksonville back in the 50s! I never had the privilege of staying there but have passed by many times. Hope you have good memories of those times and people, even if they're bittersweet.

This from Wikipedia seems to be an appropriate ending.
"Grosz resolved to return to Berlin, and relocated there in May 1959. He died there on July 6, 1959, from the effects of falling down a flight of stairs after a night of drinking."

Isherwood's in good company on the shelf, bracketed by Huxley and Ishiguro.

It's a Penguin Modern Classic re-issued 1969. The cover is a detail of a work by George Grosz, 'Kakimono'.

Alt text (sorry, missed that)
Three books by Christopher Isherwood: 'Goodbye to Berlin' (full cover), 'A Meeting by the River' and 'The World in the Evening'.

I've just taken Mrs A's old copy of 'Goodbye to Berlin' from the bookshelf and put it on my TBR pile. Despite Mrs A's admiration of his writing I'm ashamed to say I haven't read it yet. I don't seem to have a copy of 'Mr Norris..', though I've got two later novels.

That sounds great. I'd like to have been there. 😀

Not _about_ bikes, and thankfully no video, but I have been known to go downhill at speed singing 🎶"Yes! I'm the Great Descender".

It won't be long before other countries start requiring American travellers to have vaccination certificates for a whole range of preventable diseases.

My mother had Everest to fit windows in her 1930s house. They were dreadful!

Will they be meeting at Liz Truss's place in London? It seems to fit.

I'd vote if I could 😀

It's a lovely classic glassware design by Tapio Wirkkala for Finnish company Iittala though.
