I have a weakness for portal fantasy/horror stories that involve characters entering the portal, walking around this new world, getting glimpses of a bewildering landscape and ecology never explained, falling into surreal jeopardy, and then getting suddenly spat out into the real world again.

powerscaling setting but vampires in particular can ONLY be killed by the ultra-specific situations that kill vampires. doesn't matter if you're a planet-killing monstrosity, unless you put a wooden stake specifically though the heart, the vampire's going to live. and you just destroyed all the wood
