You know the voice in the back of your head that says no one wants to read your book?

Drown it.
Burn it with fire.
Get a bat and start swinging.

Don't let it exist and lie to you. Destroy it and keep writing.

Keep. Writing.

I’m very much going to need beta readers. It’s a worry I have. I’d love for you to be one. You’re so thoughtful and you ask the right questions.

And this has been the most fun Rushak’s birthday I have ever had, thanks to you and everyone!

I think so! It’s so real, ya know?

Setsune … I’m not familiar enough … I take it they have a struggle with it?

That’s so awesome because I feel the same about Lawcket.🥹
And to your second comment, my thanks because I put some work into that name! 😆

Cerel. He’s flat endearing because he’s practical and punchy with no unnecessary poetic leanings in his thought. He’s the relief! 😅

self-confidence which is reflected in his self-talk. This is rooted in his feeling that he’s a failure at protecting his vulnerable brother.
This is the person he is so I gotta hope the readers will find his journey through this compelling.
And my long self-indulgent birthday thread ends with 🧵4/5

readers would connect with this but I don’t know because I have no actual readers. I also think it’s endearing how awkward he is.

Drisal: his devotion to his brother and to his wife and son, and how the needs of one often conflict with the other, and he’s aware of his failings. He lacks 🧵3/?

fairly. For as self-absorbed as he has to be, he’s remarkably unselfish. He’s trying to be the best person he can be now, because he’s afraid he’ll become something else in the future.
The other thing is that he so badly wants to spare Drisal the consequences, especially of his pain. I hope 🧵2/?

This is such a great question. What a perfect way to love on our characters!

Rushak has a few in my eyes, the most endearing being that he’s in so much pain yet works so hard (not always successfully) to balance this against that in his mind to treat everyone and everything 🧵1/?

Tell me more about your #AwesomeCharacters

What is your character's most endearing/compelling trait?

What is something about them that you think will make a reader invested in them and their story?

Is it also the thing you like best about them?

#WIPSnips Dungeon. I was in a mental dungeon for 17 hours yesterday working through a work issue. Anyway.

Ethgar the Paladin recounts some of his experiences in the enemy stronghold.

Text in the alt.

“There is a dungeon deep underneath the castle’s deepest fortifications. I saw, well, everyone. There were dwarves, humans, all manner of canine, feline, those of both Kyi and Aru-til Phandra, all shackled and in the process of dying or outright dead. I may have seen an elf as well, dead, my heart wept for them especially. I realized then we were all enemies of the Krale. Human Paladins against human soldiers of Krale, Damion against Tyrinal. I was hesitant at first to welcome him as an ally, but after being shackled in the same cell for a few days we began to share our stories,” Ethgar explained.

“Mom, Mr. Velossy is terrifying! They call him The Velociraptor for a reason!”

Mom laughed. “He’s a very nice man, Pep.”

“I doubt it,” I muttered. “Did you know there’s a sign on his classroom door that says ‘Welcome to the Dungeon’?”

“Picture someplace pleasant, like a really cold, barren spot on Pluto, with nothing growing but mold… Breathe out the stress, breathe in peace…”

“How about we picture a dark nasty dungeon, filled with Cygnoids that we can smack until their feathers fall off?”

Awaiting the opportune moment to see a certain Sheltri prisoner for themselves.

- Brother’s Keeper, book one of my fantasy WIP about two brothers linked by a misunderstood power.
The jailer padded up behind them, panting. "I tell ye, ye've made a mistake. The dead one may be a spy; I wouldn't know. But this I do know: [Brother Redacted] himself is in the dungeon. If ye'd heard the music, ye'd know."
They stopped. Ransom's brow creased. "Don't
be ridiculous." He glanced at Rochat. The strident bawling of Cirdaathan bagpipes interrupted them.

"The song of warning," Ransom said. "The Sheltri have come after all. Mark me, the city will shake again, and this time, the gates will open."

Rochat grimaced. "The king will drive the
Rhursans off today, and the cursed Elves. Nothing will break this city. I'm for the ramparts, and let the prisoners rot." Rochat spun and made for the stairs, Rey following, as men called and scrambled to arms.

Farrowlin glanced in the direction Rochat had
gone, then shrugged at Ransom. "He's gone, my lord. We'll never have a better chance."
