We tried mass tariffs in 1828, and it crashed the economy. We tried again in 1930, and it crashed the economy.

Third time’s the charm, I guess.

On the eve of the Ontario election, I conducted a research experiment: I asked ChatGPT who to vote for. The answer? Not what I expected.

When Ontario Procurement Minister knocked on Ontario resident Lisa Crompton’s front door on Feb. 12, he might not have realized he was being recorded.

But he was, and Crompton shared the footage with me — footage that appears to show the MPP lying about the Greenbelt scandal.

Here’s what happened:

The 3 fights in the first 9 seconds is wild.
Damn, four nations Canada vs U.S. game — the U.S. anthem was booed despite a warning from the announcer to please respect other countries’ national anthem 😭😭 lmfaooo

Meanwhile the crowd took over the singing for the Canadian anthem, just belting ‘er

I got half my thyroid removed in 2012 because it was growing the big C.

I've developed lousy symptoms again. I've been waiting for an ultrasound on my thyroid since January... of 2024.

Please God, do not vote for Doug Ford. Vote him out like your life depends on it.
I know a lot of Ontarians haven't needed to go to a hospital in the last few years, but it's bad, and this should have electoral consequences.

I recently became unemployed through no fault of my own. I live in a more rural community where job postings are sorely lacking, so I’ve been trying to find remote work. The job search so far has felt incredibly depressing despite my best efforts to do everything right.

Exactly. It’s almost all downside.

Which is why it’s ridiculous when people (mostly men) try to claim it’s at all common to lie about this.

For what? To get retraumatized, disbelieved, reminded society doesn’t care about women, and to change nothing?

How appealing 🙄
Decades of confirmation hearings where women testify to abuse and sexual violence, only for the men in question to rise to higher positions of power, is a perfect encapsulation of why more victims don’t come forward.

My earlier summary of Trump’s inaugural address may seem extremely cynical, but this is exactly what I was referring to.
Trump when asked about his proposed illegal invasion of Mexico:

“If the cartels are now gonna be seen as foreign terror organizations, would you think about ordering US special forces into Mexico to take them out?”

TRUMP: “Could happen”

@rachelgilmore.bsky.social has an incredible summary of the inaugural address, and eloquently gives more context to some of the issues I felt deserved a better explaination than just my short Bluesky thread.

I highly recommend you give it a watch!
I watched Trump's inauguration so you don't have to.

It was....deeply unpleasant and very worrying!

I broke down -- and contextualized -- the main aspects of his harrowing speech.

There’s a lot to unpack, but let’s break down some of his commitments and their potential impacts (a thread).

This is great news. He can position himself as an outsider, someone who was appointed by Harper as the Governor of the Bank of Canada in 2008, and helped Canada successfully navigate one economic crisis. He has also said he would get rid of the consumer carbon tax.

Trump to Canada: Secure your border, or I’ll destroy your country with tariffs.

Also Trump: Let’s acquire Canada as the 51st state and get rid of that artificial line between our countries.

Make it make sense. 🤦‍♀️

The one upside to Trudeau announcing his resignation is that he can be more unfiltered without having to worry as much about dealing with the consequences. This may bode well, as this may be perceived as “finally” standing up to Trump.
