Listening to many speakers over multiple days has been inspiring, and has renewed some slightly shaken faith in civic life in our city.

Well done, Vancouver.

A lot of key issues and elements have been eloquently covered by citizens, so I’ll try to say something relatively “new.”

Turnout will be around 13-15% per cent — better than 2017, but not the type of thing that justifies a three hour wait at a polling station.

Done for the night.

Good to be back home, good to be back reporting on the things I love.

Having free and fair elections is a constant thing to fight for.

I'VE SEEN ENOUGH

SEAN ORR AND LUCY MALONEY HAVE WON THE 2025 VANCOUVER COUNCIL BYELECTION

I like to wait until at least half the polling stations are in before formally declaring a victory in any byelection.

We're almost at that point, so I won't call anything yet.

But it's very hard to see any result other than Maloney and Orr being Vancouver's next two city councillors.

The city has gotten back to me!

They confirm the city clerk (and chief electoral officer for this byelection) gave incorrect information to councillors multiple times about staffing for this byelection.

It is only a 62% reduction in staff compared to the 2017 byelection.

Not 80%.

As you were!
A further, and somewhat odd update for folks:

- The city emailed me, claiming it is *only* a 62% reduction in staff, and asked where I got my info from

- I told them I got it from the city clerk when she briefed city council, where she said it two times

So we'll see what they say
I've cracked the code of why byelection lineups are so long in Vancouver today.

It's not just a turnout question.

Compared to the 2017 byelection, the city decreased the number of election workers by EIGHTY PERCENT.

From 1,250 in 2017 to 250 this time around.

This was a staff recommendation.
