It was Bill Bailey doing the first series, sounds like they should have kept him on for series 2...

if you’ve ever watched the apprentice, that’s the world without arts or humanities degrees

or even some of the books he wrote for younger audiences like the Bromeliad trilogy or the Johnny series... For DA you could try the Dirk Gently books (weird detective agency shenanigans).

Let me know how you get on if you do try something :)

If you want to try them (and you don't have to, the need/geek world is vast and wonderful) then I'd suggest maybe looking outside of the traditional DiscWorld / Hitchhiker's... So for TP you might want to try Strata or Dark Side of the Sun (both more sci-fi fantasy and less comedy)

Great thread and lots of valuable insight for other ND and non-ND people to reflect on. Wishing you find more people that you can be alone together with x

I'm delighted with mine! It changes colour and it has glitter!! What's not to love - everyone should have one!!
The image shows a black and multi-coloured star-patterned lanyard lying across a wooden desk. On the lanyard are some pins/badges, the most recent being a colour-changing pronoun pin from Robin. My pronouns are she/her. Other pins include "girly swot" and "this is what a scientist looks like". I also have alumni pins from the Open University and the University of Portsmouth.

I pre-registered my scoping review protocol on the OSF, there's a specific template for that - not too tricky and helped create a plan for me to follow when I actually started the review...

Yikes! Sending you a virtual coffee and hope you get to recoup your sleep at a later date!

Have changed my supervision day from Wednesday to Monday which means an early start to get to campus - the week now starts with a shock!! #phdlife #notamorningperson

Yeah good thank you! It's 2nd year welcome back / induction refresher training this week, which seems mad that I've finished a whole year of my programme!! Super grateful for support of PGR peers/colleagues/friends at uni and here on Bsky!

timescales (demonstrating feasibility of your plans and how you'll manage this over the PhD period), expected academic outputs, and implications/expected outcomes of the research. Then references. I accompanied this with an academic CV.

Hope that helps and good luck. /end

I broke mine down into sections/headings, so introduction (background/mini lit review), rationale for what I intend to research, aims&objectives, an overall methodology (with details of planned studies e.g. survey or focus group, participants and recruitment strategies, method and analysis etc.) /1

It gets very silly and competitive!!

Ah bless ya! So far I've registered for year 2, met the new cohort and welcomed them, submitted ethics for my survey and am waiting for a decision, and am working on an analysis plan... Trying to pack as much in before I travel to Japan in just over two weeks woohoo!!

How are you getting on?

Every year myself &another friend buy traditional advents (you know the ones with pictures behind the windows, not chocolate). We then have great fun in our morning WhatsApp group (five of us) trying to guess what the daily picture will be - the more descriptive or outlandish guess the better! 🎄🎁☃️🎅🏻

Awful news coming out of Manchester. My thoughts are with everyone caught up in the horrific incident, and also with emergency services responding to the aftermath x

1/2 As Deaf Awareness Month continues, we’re sharing a moment of connection through music.

Dame Evelyn Glennie and Lois, both profoundly deaf, engage in sound and communication in different ways.

2/2 Deaf experiences are diverse. Communication is personal. Listening means meeting people where they are.
