I think it's the sum of two things, 1). Maximising the advertising exposure to the broadcasters benefit and 2). Simplifying the unique, live aspect of racing to more easily digested numbers and results, that don't need the viewer to experience or engage, to still feel an authority. A shame, for me.

Not helped that the resting camera shot is designed fill the screen with maximum car, where the context of what the car is doing -and the connection to what the viewer can relate to - the track shape, turns approaching & just gone, are an abstract irrelevance. The car becomes static, unconnected.
