For those who don’t know what NCEP EMC does, they run our numerical weather prediction models on supercomputers, and do research on how to improve those models. The forecast on your smartphone is probably derived from a model that they ran. www.emc.ncep.noaa.gov/emc.php

As I read comments on social media posts about NOAA, I am calling on all of my broadcast media friends to do a story about everything that NOAA does for the public.

For those who don’t know what NOAA’s Radar Operations Center (ROC) does, they are the tech experts who keep our nation’s weather radars running, 24/7. ROC has a hotline NWS offices can call for help getting broken radars working again quickly. www.roc.noaa.gov

Publicly available NOAA/NWS data saves lives.
I would like to second this, I live in Fairview North Carolina which was horribly devastated by hurricane Helene. The only reason we survived is because we knew what the rainfall was, and we could predict the amount of rainfall. My spidey sense alerted me to stay safe and get gas, here we are today.

Never in my life have I seen snow fall consistently as pure, true dendrites that can be seen so easily with the naked eye. It looks like the world's fluffiest blanket as it collects on surfaces. Totally meteorologist geek out right now. #cowx

60 MPH Chinook wind gusts and fresh fluffy snow are creating intermittent blizzard conditions south of #Boulder this afternoon, forcing the closure of Highway 93. Looks pretty gnarly out there, don't you think? ❄️💨 #COWX #Colorado #Chinook
