This is Manolo. His family invited strangers to spend time with him on his last day. His mom said, "This was such a perfect way to celebrate the life of a dog who truly loved spending time with people and their dogs. Run free and fast forever, Manolo. I will never stop missing you." 14/10 for all

Five-minute rainfall and soil moisture at four depths at the @wisconet.bsky.social South Milwaukee station during the rainfall event of August 9-10, 2025, that produced flooding throughout the Milwaukee area. Part of a case study for class today.
Plot of five minute rainfall amounts on August 9-10 at South Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There are two major peaks of rainfall on the evening of the 9th and in the early morning hours of the 10th, reaching almost 1.5 cm in 5 minutes during the second peak. Soil moisture measurements at 4 depths, for 5-minute intervals at South Milwaukee for the same Aug 9-10 time period as the rainfall data. The shallower measurements (5 and 20 cm) show rapidly rising moisture during the first rainfall peak, followed by an additional increase at shallower depths and a rise of moisture at the two greater depths during or just after the second peak.

Drought conditions continue to worsen across Wisconsin, and we've added Moderate Drought (D1, tan) to the state for the first time since the middle of July.

Nearly 70% of the state is in Abnormally Dry (D0, yellow) or Moderate Drought conditions.
Map showing the Drought Monitor for Wisconsin. Moderate Drought has been added in a stripe across northwestern Wisconsin and a small semicircle in southern Wisconsin. Much of the rest of the state, except for along I-94 is in abnormally dry conditions.

Not as cold overall this morning as it was yesterday, but more parts of the state got into the frost and freeze criteria.

The growing season is coming to an end and it is becoming more fall-like by the day.

Today my @nytimes.com colleagues and I are launching a new series called Lost Science. We interview US scientists who can no longer discover something new about our world, thanks to this year‘s cuts. Here is my first interview with a scientist who studied bees and fires. Gift link: nyti.ms/3IWXbiE

A teacher must have an email etiquette autoreplier bot set up.
I know I should NOT reply with:

"Dearest Kevin,

I am dreadfully sorry for the improper email I have burdened you with.

Kindly halt all lessons in email etiquette.

I am a grown ass woman with a PhD.

Auspiciously,

Sarah J. McAnulty"
a block of text from an email that reads "Hello,

I noticed your email is missing a polite greeting. Starting your email
with a greeting helps set a respectful tone.

Here are some examples of greetings you can use:
- Dear Mr./Ms. [Last Name],
- Hello [Teacher’s Name],
- Hi [Teacher’s Name],

Also, please remember to include a clear subject line in your emails.

Thank you!

Best regards,

No, no you really don't care about them, Sam Altman. If you did, you wouldn't be doing the majority of what you've been doing.

We hit hard freeze criteria in a lot of northern Wisconsin, effectively bringing an end to the growing season up there.

A hard freeze is defined as when the temperature gets down to 28°F or lower for at least an hour.
Top-10 lowest temperatures in Wisconsin on October 8. Temperatures range between 22 and 27 degrees. Map showing the low temperatures across the state for October 8. Temperatures range from 22 to 48.
