this man is becoming one of my fav game devs. and he's making games in #godotengine!

I always wanted to make a multiplayer game for a jam and finally did in the last Ludum Dare 58 compo.

White Noise Protocol - a co-op online game without a single line of netcode 🙃

Play it on itch ❄

looks really good though!

players pick a different role. like in Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes!
adriaan.games
is there a proposal for that already?
adriaan.games
i really don’t understand how you seem to run into all sorts of trouble all the time while my team and I aren’t
adriaan.games
zulip is another one I found but it was a bit too much forum-like for what I was looking for
adriaan.games
i did the research and found mattermost free edition or rocketchat community are the two best options with ok UX
adriaan.games
where’d you go?
adriaan.games
the way the character first rotates his chest before his head is phenomenally comical

don't misinterpret what I said. I know a LOT of indies being sustained from mobile game sales; I simply don't know any that are doing so who started in last few years. I'm not saying they don't exist. but the fact it's is objectively easy to point at successes on other platforms proves my point
adriaan.games
putting all of us to shame

i miss the times where people experimented with games made with mobile UX in mind.

🙏🏼

like: sure, UI and UX on mobile work a bit different, but that’s a small investment compared to, say, console certification. other than that we all have absolute powerhouse units of cpu and gpu devices in our pockets. sky is the limit, really.
adriaan.games
anyway, i used the word unjustifiable earlier because i LOVE the mobile format and UX. aside from misguided app stores who provide very little visibility to new titles, there’s very few objective reasons why not more games can thrive there.
adriaan.games
the silver lining is that players seem to be willing to pay more for a game because there’s something they wanna try and the last time they bought a mobile game was a year plus ago. hence why nearly all recent ‘ indie’ games on mobile are ‘try before you buy’ & double the price of games 10 years ago
adriaan.games
with apple arcade and google play pass, app stores captured a lot of people who’d normally just buy games. with those people playing and paying there, it really does feel that theres increasingly fewer players “left” who even consider downloading a game from the regular app store.
adriaan.games
meanwhile the top 250 of free games is dominated by games we’ve all seen ads of plus games with an IP attached to it that became successful somewhere else first. uninspiring
adriaan.games
have you seen the App Store top 250 premium games recently? if you are even remotely knowledgeable about the games that came out 10 to 5 years ago, you will recognize 50% or more of the list! its as if someone just froze the list 5 years ago! it’s bizarre, and a testament to app store misguidance.
adriaan.games
mobile is in such an unjustifiably terrible place right now. find me a single indie dev that doesn’t have an existing audience and isn’t using a gross business model on mobile to survive. just one! i don’t know any success stories like that over the last few years.

apparently there's 3 completely different types of Godot plugins: GDExtensions, Plugins, and Native Plugins.

Rift Riff has all 3 types, for Steam, Google Play, and the App Store. they all work differently and are included in builds (or not) differently.

there was confusion, alright…
