It's been a bit since I've done a puppy post. Need to pay the pet tax!

The 2026 debut authors put together a Goodreads list to make it easy for you to add books by disabled/neurodivergent/chronically ill/etc debut authors!

I'm so excited for all of these 2026debuts!

My reading reflection post didn't have room to put my favorite reads from 2025. So here they are!

Depending on the app, they show different 5-star reads. Who knows?

Tied for the best read of 2025 are The Keeper of Lonely Spirits by E.M. Anderson and The River Has Roots by Amal El-Mohtar.

Meet the characters! Rosa Chirre

Rosa is Nina's older sister, a secondary character. She thinks Nina is the cause of her own trouble and the reason their family falls apart. It takes her a long time to forgive her and realize that family cohesion takes everyone's effort. Once she does, she's all in

It's time for a quotation from Worlds Divide! In which my own awkwardness shows through
January 7, 2026 at 7:38 PM
I have no idea why Goodreads thinks The River Has Roots was 4 pages, but it probably was the shortest book I read this year even though it was definitely longer. Jane Eyre met my goal of reading a book at least 100 years old that I probably should've in school but didn't.

They are all wonderful reads. I highly recommend all 3. I hear there's a preorder sale at B&N. Or support your local indie bookstore and these debuts!

In 2025, I read 52 books, exceeding my goal of 42! Some took longer than others, but I averaged a book per week, which is my goal for 2026.

It's my Reading Wrap-Up from 2025! Or 2025 book recap. I gathered in the 3 books I read and loved in December.

December started my 2026 Debut ARC reading with
The Poet Empress by @storygoose Jan 20
Tidespeaker by @sadieturnerauthor Jan 6
Into the Midnight Wood by @anmccollumbooks Jan 13
January 7, 2026 at 1:52 PM
An amazing number of 2026 debut novels! My goal is generally to get these ARCs read in the calendar month before their release.

Here we go? What have I got on my pile already to read? (And, sh, don't tell my massive Mt. TBR about this.) These are my ARCs to read in the first half of the year .
January 6, 2026 at 7:38 PM
It's that time of year again! Reading wrap-ups and looking forward!

My goal for next year is to read 52 books! That will bring me back to my average annual reading level for most of my life. I met that number this year, so it's looking good for next year.

What have I got to read?

Character art reveal!

Swipe for full art!

My first character art comission ever. I adore this piece of Corey and Nina sitting on Corey's car on a summer night out in the country, looking at stars.

Meet the character: Marq Dontaria

Marq is Corey's older brother. Marq is far from perfect and far from a fuck-up. Full of flaws and doing his best when his best is sometimes good enough and sometimes not. When their parents are removed from their lives, Corey is angry and petulant.
January 5, 2026 at 7:38 PM
The next quote I'd like to highlight comes from Chapter 3 when Corey is trying to get Nina to open up about herself.
January 5, 2026 at 1:52 PM
There's one week left of the year and I have 3 books I want to finish! All 3 are ARCs of 2026 debuts that publish in January!

I've already started Tidespeaker by Sadie Turner and Into the Midnight Wood by Alexandra McCollum. I can't wait to read A Barista's Guide to Love & Larceny by Caroline Bonin

It's cute puppy post day! Peaches loves to curl up in warm blankets. What a way to spend a wintry day!
December 16, 2025 at 7:38 PM
The @2026Debuts has started a Goodreads list for small press debuts in 2026! There's way more than 10 books (so if you're a small press debut and want to be added be sure to chime in!) If you're looking to support small presses and small press authors, here's a wonderful start for your 2026 TBR!
December 14, 2025 at 7:38 PM
Meet the character: Cella Chirre

Cella is Nina's younger sister, a secondary character. She loves Nina unconditionally and would do anything for her. She's smart and a sharp-witted. Cella faces the most difficult decision of her young life after her family falls apart–stay with Nina or go back.

Can you find the Peaches?
December 10, 2025 at 7:38 PM
When you've got an amazing group of debuts and you keep getting widgets and keep requesting and then you've got a terrible feedback ratio and a whole pile of amazing ARCs to read! I have more in another app. I won't be surprised if publishers on NetGalley don't approve me for another book ever again

Today's quote post is the content warning at the beginning of Worlds Divide.

Day 30 #MelsNoWriMo You Did It! Goals achieved and final snippet.

I finished my dev edits earlier this month and I'm extremely proud of the MS I handed in! (Except I think I have a continuity error right at the end. I'll fix it next pass.)

Final snippet is a line that made me cry. (Spoilers)

Day 29 #MelsNoWriMo Ideas for your dream cover.

Ooh, I actually went through this for reals. I don't have my cover yet, and I'm going to hold off on speaking about it so I don't jinx anything.

Day 28 #MelsNoWriMo Turn your novel into a movie, where would you shoot?

Omaha, Nebraska. It might get a little tough as Corey's version of Omaha is closer to the 1980s/90s with most (not all) locations referencing them. Some still exist, but many don't.

Day 27 #MelsNoWriMo Is there a playlist for the story?

You betcha! Two links, depending on the listener's prefered app:

Day 26 #MelsNoWriMo How do you name your characters?

Nina's name came from an anagram generator because her original name got used in a very famous book published 15 years or more after I thought of it, and I didn't want to look like I was copying.
