What's your theory of change?

By relying on the “vaxx & relax” approach to dealing with COVID, Public Health officials backed themselves into a corner… a corner that the anti-Science lobby had set up as a trap.

The anti-Science lobby now controls vaccine research and distribution in the US.

The other tools? PH sabotaged them.

For what is worth it, I think Greta Thunberg is a remarkable human being.
strictlychristo.bsky.social
Greta Thunberg speaks to the press after being released from illegal detainment in Israel: "I could talk for a very, very long time about our mistreatment and abuses in our imprisonment. Trust me, but that is not the story.”

You have to give it to authoritarian regimes, they are consistently idiotic and destructive across most dimensions.

It would be very interesting to hear if anyone who really understands the United States and - say - the 1990s Yugoslav wars has written anything about the current situation.

At what point does a governor call up their National Guard to oppose the deployment of an out-of-state National Guard?
adriancjr.bsky.social
Given that, among other things, religion seems to play an important contribution to the current state of US affairs, the comparison with former Yugoslavia would be pertinent. Northern Ireland might be another relevant reference.

Apart from the technological failure to stop these attacks, it also shows a failure of intelligence. The attacks are initiated inside Denmark, Germany, etc., by agents within those countries.

The Russian drones operations reveal two things that Europeans seem unable to admit to themselves. The first is that they are unwilling/incapable of stopping these operations and seem helpless to keep them from multiplying. The second is that the US government doesnt care and will not help Europe.

Macron remarks are notable- some quotes: "We have been incredibly naive in entrusting our democratic space to social networks that are controlled either by large American entrepreneurs or large Chinese companies, whose interests are not at all the survival or proper functioning of our democracies."

We have been incredibly naive in entrusting our democratic space to social networks.”

Again, why are there no general strikes in the USA as their democracy is being dismantled in real time?

As stated about influenza in Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine, 18th Edition (2011): “Most pathogens exit via the same route by which they entered: respiratory pathogens by aerosols from sneezing or coughing”.

First, Covid was here to stay, now Long Covid is here to stay. Predictable, but sad, nevertheless, because as we don't live in the Bronze Age and we know how to stop the spread of diseases. Yet, we hire public health officials who act like Bronze Age priests and shamans.

We are seeing the victory of Hamburg-styled free market laissez-faire overcoming a scientific consensus around the contagionist principle that #COVIDisAirborne, necessitating another Koch-styled state-led engineering intervention to clean our air like the 19th century cleaned our drinking water.

Today’s horror is that the reverse of what happened in the Hamburg 1892 epidemic is underway. Instead of undertaking centralised intervention based on a scientific consensus favouring Koch's contagionist model, the laissez-faire camp of JFK Jr etc is winning. bsky.app/profile/tosh...

The Central Error of the Pandemic…

Is that of running pandemic management by laissez-faire socioeconomic principles.

If you grasp this, all the other errors fall into place as the inevitable consequence of following that line of thought. 🧵 1/x

Since 1987, libertarians have become more extreme in their anarcho-capitalist radicalism than Thatcher or Hayek could ever have imagined, thus making this book even more relevant today than ever before. Hayek accepted centralised intervention for infectious diseases. His heirs do not.

It is really hard to overstate how deeply divided #Finland was after the brutal 1918 Civil War and White terror that followed.

I’m certain that largely liberal “social justice warriors” who afterwards pressed through legislation to reduce inequalities and improve social services saved Finland.

Agree. In the Winter War people from all backgrounds fought the common enemy in shared trenches. Only two decades earlier they had been literally shooting at each other.

Yeah, and tax cuts for the wealthy are paid for by cutting the things holding countries social cohesion together. Win Win for Putin.

It’s not that the harms aren’t there, they’re everywhere

It’s that people are misattributing them to the wrong causes

At the point when the money becomes the end istead of the means, being rich becomes a nihilistic vicious circle.
karaswisher.bsky.social
Exactly — my question is why be this rich and still be an unctuous toady?
cwarzel.bsky.social
wrote a quick one about the tech companies settling lawsuits with Trump. Yes, it’s cowardice. But it’s also an excuse to behave the way they’ve always wanted to (irresponsibly, with no regard for the consequences of their actions). Which, actually makes them a perfect part of the MAGA coalition

The modern Latin tradition would favor a junta controlled by a bunch of generals or colonels. What could provide a better history rhyme than a military junta riding the wave of a football World Cup?
