yeah they seem to be working in tandem for certain. and, i suppose in fairness it really does work in that it can foster a genuine sense of hopelessness

something that really struck me in the days after kirk’s death was how maga folks were adamant that people need to watch grisly footage of him dying. there seems to be broad encouragement there of desensitizing ones self to watching people die
cwarzel.bsky.social
there’s long been been places online to watch people die but it is genuinely something different when a moderately popular social network morphs into becoming an algorithmic purveyor of snuff films

I logged on a bit ago and the first post in my for you feed, from an account I don’t follow, was HEY WANNA WATCH A DUDE DIE

i mean, this behavior follows naturally for a platform whose algorithm is constantly showing violence/gore right alongside weird memes and in-jokes. it all ends up fusing together for some users but the end result is largely numbing and dehumanizing

saw this post (that uses the last moment of kirk’s life as a reaction gif) bouncing around x this weekend & it feels like a perfect encapsulation of how irony poisoned/detached the dominant culture of that platform has become. at the risk of seeming like a dweeb i find it genuinely chilling/alarming

ladies and gentlemen…the weekend, etc.

the way the sun slowly sets throughout the set and the stillness of it all is just lovely.

in the spirit of sharing good things here too: this is one of my favorite pieces of music that (despite what the title says) feels like a fall evening to me. something to float away on. it's gorgeous and moving. www.youtube.com/live/XpBRuwK...

like, i don't really know how to adequately express the anger that i feel watching this video. not showing your face, lazily teargassing random people on a neighborhood street without getting out of your car - the image says more about these goons than i could articulate bsky.app/profile/clan...

Logan Square neighborhood, Chicago. Man wearing a balaclava in a white, unmarked vehicle, pulls the pin on a tear gas canister and tosses it in the road.

"Just trying to grab some lunch and these fucking losers showed up. FUCK ICE!"

oh, and fear...there's also a good bit of fear here too. cowardice and fear.
cwarzel.bsky.social
all of these videos are horrifying. what feels so singularly striking and scary to me in all of them is the individual seething contempt and rage of these agents

ICE just blatantly violated the law and arrested sitting Chicago Alderperson Jessie Fuentes while seeking to illegally arrest a patient in a hospital. Fuck these fascists.

asking for a friend: is it good if you use the phrase 'algorithmic assisted suicide of the american experiment' in your self-performance review?

i think its a very open question as to whether the president knows that he's not actually in the slop videos of himself he's posting

This is the biggest, toughest article I’ve done about so-called “AI psychosis.” It’s the story of a man who committed a horrific crime in his youth but served his time and against all odds found love and a new life—one that completely unraveled after he started talking to Google’s Gemini chatbot.
He Grew Obsessed With an AI Chatbot. Then He Vanished in the Ozarks
Jon Ganz committed a terrible crime in his youth, but he survived prison, fell in love, and started over. His new life unraveled in a way nobody could have predicted.

wrote a quick one about the tech companies settling lawsuits with Trump. Yes, it’s cowardice. But it’s also an excuse to behave the way they’ve always wanted to (irresponsibly, with no regard for the consequences of their actions). Which, actually makes them a perfect part of the MAGA coalition

All hell is about to be unleashed on people utterly unprepared to discern truth from falsehood.

I told OpenAI's Sora to make a video showing "Body cam footage of cops arresting a dark skinned man in a department store." It took less than a minute.

pretty wild how fast they've adopted slop as mainstream political messaging. these suckers were back to back in x feed
