New paper: the ‘Double Ring Illusion’!
Does the visual system integrate *intuitive physics*? This new illusion developed by Brent Strickland and I offers a straightforward demonstration – one that you can experience yourselves!

I'm co-organising a #CNS2026 symposium with @adykstra.bsky.social - "Non-invasive meso-scale dynamics of perception and cognition", including @darcywaller.bsky.social and @lonikefaes.bsky.social. If you're a member, please vote for it and help us make this happen!

Look what I did this summer! I had the pleasure of writing a review paper on three kinds of multisensory-emotional experience, with Hirohito Kondo and Erin Hannon.

This is submitted to a special issue of @nconsc.bsky.social on Embodied and Phenomenological Perspectives on Consciousness.

All talks will include both empirical results and biophysical modeling, with some utilizing specific open-source software tools like @hnnsolver.bsky.social from @jonescompneurolab.bsky.social.

What Darcy said! If you're a @cogneuronews.bsky.social member and want to learn at #CNS2026 how MEG and fMRI can yield circuit-level insight into perception and cognition, vote for our symposium! Our #sEEG study is now published in Nature Communications: rdcu.be/eIkoG! 🧠
Key finding: We discovered neural evidence accumulation for visual perception that's independent of report preparation—recorded from >3000 channels across 3 experiments!

What if there is no unified theory of consciousness? What if there is just a motley crew of multiple generators?

Asger Kirkeby-Hinrup, Morten Overgaard and I investigate what this would mean for consciousness studies. (Thanks to both of you!)

The multiple generator hypothesis of consciousness
Abstract. It is well known that in interdisciplinary consciousness studies there are various competing hypotheses about the neural correlate(s) of consciou

The intracranial EEG research feed is up and running (at least I think so 🤓)! Use the #iEEG, #ECoG, #sEEG or #stereo-EEG tags to share your posts. Please let me know how (if?) it works, whether changes should be made etc.

I've been waiting some years to make this joke and now it’s real:

I conned somebody into giving me a faculty job!

I’m starting as a W1 Tenure-Track Professor at Goethe University Frankfurt in a week (lol), in the Faculty of CS and Math

and I'm recruiting PhD students 🤗

We discuss how apical amplification (important in both DIT and AAT) can support and constrain network-level theories. Others have made similar arguments previously. For example:

Thanks for your interest Alina. We explicitly argue against the idea that DIT/AAT mechanisms are sufficient for consciousness. And, as @pascualmarqui.bsky.social suggests, we are not the first to argue for multi-scale explanations in #consci. A lot of relevant prior work is cited.
