This is a big part of how we code basic government amenities and services as some form of luxury concierge service. Not one person involved in this discussion would accept the level of shoddy service regularly provided to poor communities but they imagine it’s because the poor simply don’t care.

People desperately want there to be a right-wing worldview, that is necessarily grounded in supremacism, zero-sum personal enrichment, and apocalyptic make-believe, and yet somehow produces a functional society as the outcome of its social operation.

There’s twice as many utes as tradies in Australia. We need remove the luxury car tax exemption which incentivises people to buy megautes instead of safer, cleaner smaller cars and SUVs.
