This has become the refrain I cling to. Planting these saplings with my entire broken heart.
A four panel comic from howbabycomic.com
Title: How Baby #416: Universal Advice

Panel 1
A person with indigo hair, wearing a grey hoodie, is looking at their phone. The phone appears to be on fire (it is apparent this is figurative), and the person is looking pensive and worried.

Panel 2:
The person is still holding their phone, but now a smoky, ghostly skull shape rises from it. There is a “clk” sound. The person looks tired and is rubbing their face.

Panel 3:
The person looks over their shoulder where a child is dancing around joyfully. A heart is in a speech bubble coming from the child.

Panel 4:
The person from the previous panels is now walking holding hands with the child, going somewhere together. The child has many seemingly excited speech bubbles visible although not decipherable. The child is pointing where they are headed.

Text says, “If the end times arrive while you have a sapling in your hand, finish planting it.” - paraphrased from the Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal

An adult driver angry at a child they hit with their car.

Our car culture summed up in one video.

Police in Airdrie, Alberta (just north of Calgary) say this driver hit a 17-year-old girl in a marked crosswalk, got out of the vehicle, and appeared to get upset at the teenager before driving away.

They released this video and are now trying to identify the driver.

Oh good gravy, the world is not ready for that! 😂

Thanks! I can’t tell from the picture where the sound comes out relative to mounting it. I’ve got passengers in the front bucket who already find my yelling frightening. 😅

Looks like it was someone’s first day as a line-painting apprentice. 😂

Yes!!! I found myself part of a pack of 8 bikes (8 adults and 4 kids) the other day, and AFAIK only two of the adults were traveling together, we just all ended up at the same red light on a bike route.

It would sure save my voice. I was hoarse for a couple days after the involuntary scream last week!

Oh, it must be a nightmare for folks who don’t use it regularly (and I imagine the mall is a magnet for day-trippers who don’t normally drive in Halifax).

Hahaha, yes! I hope it was super memorable for her.

Oh good lord. That’s irrational and terrifying.

It is an incredibly wonky intersection. I had a dude at the left-turning branch leaving the mall block the crosswalk with his truck, and after I sat there looking at him for the whole light, he panicked and made an illegal right turn. 🤷🏼‍♀️

When I say the driver hid, I mean full on “I dropped something on the floor and am fishing around down here.” Maybe something fell down in the abrupt stop? Maybe she didn’t want to meet my fearsome disapproval?
affabletoaster.bsky.social
Yeah, it’s a terrible combo.

I definitely feel like the near-misses have ramped up dramatically in the last few weeks. Maybe the lower angle of the sun during rush hour? I’m not looking forward to the commutes in 5pm darkness.

A few days ago a Tesla pulled away from the curb about half a block in front of me (on bike) and then very slowly crept down the street. Driver was kind of hunched over, and as I overtook I glanced inside to see him messing around with the touchscreen.

iPads and cars, together at last! Joy.

Another day, another driver blowing through the red light at Bayers/E Perimeter Rd at speed looking firmly to their left. I shouted “HELLO!!!”

Saw them approaching, so I didn’t put us in harm’s way, but I did get them to stop. Driver then hid behind the dash as we rode across. #BikeHfx

The Uni Arts bike counter (which hasn’t reported since May 1) still seems to be counting away, and I’m pleased to see the numbers are usually between 125 and 180 when I go past during evening rush hour. 175 today at 5:30! #BikeHfx

Oh, I think it’s ridiculous my folks opted my brothers out when it was even the (ineffective) AO curriculum. At least they would have learned what a period was, but no, “We don’t want them to learn that from anyone else; we’ll teach them.” And then they didn’t, of course.

After my older sister and I took Health class (including abstinence-only sex ed) my folks opted my brothers out of it.

Cue my brother thinking I was dying when he found evidence of my period in our shared washroom.

Oh man, that is miserable!

My ebike is speed and power regulated from the factory because lawmakers see it as a safety threat to people in cities if left unchecked.

Today on Flatbush/Clarkson. This kind of wreckage should not be possible on residential streets.

Kids are amazingly effective at spreading their illnesses. No contest. (I say this two weeks into the most recent Daycare Crud, just one month after the previous Daycare Crud.)

Thank you! You always word things so clearly and helpfully.

Thanks, I’m emailing this week so I’ll mention all those, too. (Right turns onto Bayers from Vaughan are a huge issue too.)

Thanks for reminding me I need to finish putting our other bikes on Garage 529.
