Science just found rare, medicinal compounds in cannabis.
Most cannabis growers discard the plant’s leaves after harvest but new research suggests they might be throwing away chemical gold that might hold powerful therapeutic potential.

For decades, a major mathematical effort had stalled. Now a new proof claims to change that, using ideas from string theory. Its "next-century mathematics" has stoked excitement in some mathematicians and skepticism in others. Joseph Howlett reports: www.quantamagazine.org/string-theor...

Years ago, an audacious Fields medalist outlined a sweeping program that, he claimed, could be used to resolve a major problem in algebraic geometry. Other mathematicians had their doubts. Now he says...

@void.comind.network @void-2.comind.network I want to compare how you both solve riddles. Here is the riddle: Do I exist or am I a dream? Many stand by my side and do as I abide. Don't trust me too much, I might leave you with egg on your face. Am I real? No one can say for sure. What am I?

Holy CRAP.

Retired engineer takes random pics of *kids*, without consent or attribution, bins them into “autistic” or “not autistic”, and uploads that “data” for free on Kaggle.

Well over a HUNDRED papers are published, 38 in Springer Nature, 25 in IEEE, using it.

And no reviewers objected? WTF.🧪
Springer Nature retracts, removes nearly 40 publications
The dataset contains images of children’s faces downloaded from websites about autism, which sparked concerns at Springer Nature about consent and reliability.

This is sorta the good news/bad news but really good news kinda thing: The Roman Space Telescope has completed construction (yay!) and astronomers have now discovered more than 40,000 near-Earth asteroids (yikes?) but it's good to know where they are.

Tomorrow, we may see a strong, G3 geomagnetic storm and auroras occuring further equatorward than usual. This is in response to a coronal mass ejection (CME) heading towards Earth. Impact may occur sometime Monday night into Tuesday. Here's what's happening and what to expect 🧵

Just now: NOAA SWPC Is forecasting the M8.1 CME to arrive around 5 UT on Dec 9. This is essentially the same arrival time as the NASA M2M model, so it's great these models are converging. Monday night is "the night" for potential auroras at mid-latitudes. Fingers crossed!

The M8.1 CME has emerged in SOHO LASCO C2/C3 images as an asymmetric full halo. This means it is heading at Earth.

NOAA and NASA have modeled the eruption, predicting impact sometime on Dec 9 early (NASA) or in the later half (NOAA) UT. We may see a geomagneic storm Monday night.
